Biathlon Rifles; Courtesy of Ruger Firearms

I don't expect to ever do any shooting while on skis, but it is great to learn about this sport. Note how these competitors use their bones and a sling to support their rifles rather than relying on muscle power. That is an important lesson for all shooters.

Well, it is important to remember that these bi-atheletes are not shooters and they are not gun folk.

They are cross country skiers who are taught enough about how to shoot that particular gun so that it is not a liability come race time.

I would venture to guess that 99% of them never fired a gun before biathlon and never do so outside of practice/competition.

There are many different reasons that folks get into shooting, and the shooting sports. I am glad and grateful for every law abiding gun owner in our country. If all a person needed to encourage them to become a rifleman was a set of skis, I would be on the bandwagon to teach every kid to ski.

Who knows, maybe she shoots a Garand when she's not doing Biathlon?

I wouldn't be surprised......
