Weekend Steam: Gettin' Serious

We've been looking at steam models for a few weeks, and we all could use a locomotive fix.  Union Pacific is pulling some of their Big Boys back to the shop to be re-conditioned for service.  Big News, Indeed! Like a Million Pounds Big.  Here is the proof as a display loco leaves California for Wyoming.

How interesting! Any idea on where they will be used?

When I was a kid there were still coal burners in service in rural PA. Invariably they would drop off a load in the siding tracks across from our house & when they pulled away they belched a LOT of coal smoke - all over Mom's clean laundry on the line!

I don't know what they are planning, and the UP website doesn't tell. It's worth a look though: http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_trains/steam/locomotives/4014.shtml
