Tuesday Torque: 1914 Victrola Motor

A new Victrola moved in today; a 1914 model with a mahogany cabinet!  It is sitting next to our 1920 Victrola in the walnut cabinet.  It runs and sounds great, but we will be popping the motor out to oil all the bearings and we will send off the reproducers from both machines so they will sound like new.  Here is a pretty good video that shows the power behind these vintage music makers.

Most modern machines won't be running at all when they are 105 years old.

I do have a mental image of a large clock spring and trying to get it back in the container.

I have done that, and it is not easy. The old Brunswick had a broken spring that Zeke and I repaired. We punched holes in the ends and riveted the spring back together, then successfully put it back in the can. I will check out how well our new one is running, and if the spring needs new grease I think I will send it away and let an expert handle it.
