Old Jack had been going downhill for the last several months. He had back pain, hip pain, weakness, and then kidney failure. The old boy was 14 plus years old, but still enjoyed going out, but he was often falling down by the end of his walk. Skipper left us last week, too, at age 18 1/2.

Sorry for your losses. The Misses and I have been down that road many times ourselves, and it is always gut-wrenching. But I would never not have dogs in my life. Their passing, regardless of how it occurs, is just part of pet ownership. I know people that only had one dog, and were so broken afterwards they never got another. We always have between 2 and 4 at any one time of different ages. The survivors provide much comfort to us even though they are also missing their housemate. It usually isn't a year before we get a new addition to the pack.
So very sorry for you and Susan. Thankful your old Buddy had you both and can now rest.
I am sorry to hear such bad news. At least they had a good life at the end.
Not the news I wanted to hear.
Remember the good times.
Jack and Skipper both lived long, happy lives. Skipper was unusual in that he was not an escape risk like most Schipperkes. We could let him out in the night and he would come right back to the door. One night he encountered a skunk, though. Jack loved long walks when he was younger. We would go for a 2 3/4 mile walk on the weekends; good for him and me both. We don't ever want to be without dogs.
