My inquiring mind has wondered about this for a long time. These chaps have a couple layers of Kevlar fabric to protect legs from chainsaw cuts, and Kevlar is used in bulletproof vests, so chainsaw chaps ought to be bulletproof; right? Watch the video and be amazed, or maybe disappointed.
Update: Here is a YouTube video from Bailey's that demonstrates the cut resistance and saw jamming capabilities of high-end chaps. These are six ply, with both Kevlar and Polyester fibers.
Well, so much for protection against bullets; do the chaps actually hold up against a chain saw?

Kevlar is cut resistant, and I have seen these two-ply chaps prevent a cut on a co-worker. You can spend more and be more cut proof. The best chaps have Kevlar and Polyester, and they will jam up a saw running wide open. I will add a video from Baileys as an update.
ReplyDeleteYou could do an "Is it bulletproof" mini-series on here...that could be some good entertainment!
ReplyDeleteBox o' Truth does some of that, but I bet we could come up with a few original ideas for posts.
ReplyDeleteThe Baileys video is very impressive! The high-enders would be a pretty good investment.
