Never saw one of these either. How odd, Beaver Falls is about the same distance south of me as Tionesta is north. Guess that puts me nicely in the middle of the original oil fields. There are still a lot of old wells around here - some active & some not.
Think of the knowledge that has disappeared. Every spudder had to have men who could build a forge, upset and shape the ends of cable tool bits, and then heat treat them properly, plus splice cables, pour rope sockets, pour and fit babbit bearings, and on and on.
