I've seen a few of those around here, mostly refugees from the junk yard that will no longer pass state inspection. The most common method was to put it up on blocks, and install a custom/home made "wheel" with a drum for a flat belt installed. Worked pretty good, and you could always go back to the original configuration and use your field hoopie to fetch firewood, etc.
There are Regular 8 movies (somewhere) of my Father and uncles using a buzz saw that they ran in 50's and early 60's. It had a tilting table and they cut mostly slabs that they got from the local sawmills. Back then it was understood that the saw was dangerous and in all the years that the saw was used no appendages were lost.
