I walked down a railroad right-of-way recently to visit a property and found a lovely bucket that was decorated with the Fire Snake logo and instructions. I had never heard of it before, but I am impressed, and I found their video. If you need to expand some rail to tighten a joint, this is just what you need!
HMMM, I wonder if this would be good for starting fires & burning wet wood?

I was lazy this winter and instead of splitting kindling down like a woodsman I used a Bernz-O-Matic propane torch when I had to fire up. I recommend it highly!
ReplyDeleteWhite pine cones make excellent fire starters and so do sweetgum balls. Paraffin dissolves in mineral spirits, and you could use that to soak sawdust, corncobs, or twigs to make good fire starters.
I used to tightly roll newspapers, soak them in paraffin, tie them & cut into about 1" long sections. Also, I'd cut cardboard to form an "X" inside a tuna can, fill it with wax & use it to cook over. Guess I was a lazy Boy Scout.... :(
