Well, Susan didn't want to wait for the weather; she went to our infallible source so we could see if the coming winter will be tolerable or not. Today she brought in a persimmon and cut open a seed. SPOON! That means we will be shoveling snow.
Not content with one seed, she split open three more, and the sign is unmistakable. Polish up your snow shovels with a little cooking oil so you can pitch snow, stack extra wood closeby, and have tarps handy to cover your wood before snowstorms. Lay in extra coffee, and plenty of beans and cornmeal.
I go easy on the beans if I'm going to be shut in..... :)

Up here, it's the acorns and other nut trees that are telling us we have to plan for an ass-kickin winter.
ReplyDeleteLast year, i only used 4 ricks of firewood to heat the house all winter, instead of 8 like normal.
THis year I have 11 put back for heat.
Plus I got the genset all ready and such, just in case it becomes ice storm time like last time we got a plethora of tree nuts falling from the trees.
YMMV
