How feasible is it to utilize electrical current to generate steam for use in a piston engine? What would the anticipated efficiency be for such a steam generation system?
While watching this video I thought it would be cool to use a solar array plus perhaps a small water wheel to charge batteries which are used to heat a boiler. It certainly would be unique. Another question; what do you suppose the capacity required to move a 24' launch at 4 kt? (duration notwithstanding)
This might be a project right up the alley for SiGraybeard and drjim. Me, I know next to nothing about steam generation and solar systems.
There used to be toy engines that were heated by electricity. I think the efficiency would be pretty dismal. I wonder how many gallons of generator fuel a Californian has to burn to charge his electric car to go to work. They don't see that when they plug into an outlet.
