In the late 1960s, the dive club Aku Marines at MCAS Kane'ohe (O'ahu Hawai'i) got a new boat. It was a 26' launch from the USS O'Bannon (DD-450) scheduled for decommission.
The boat was double ended with tiller. The engine was a one lung Buda which ran on diesel. IIRC, it was 12 HP. As you can imagine, there was plenty of torque. No sea state could slow that boat.
