Good Info. Thank You! I forget much of what we had in Wood Tech, 50 + years ago. I do remember that white oak is good for about 7 years untreated. Red oak, because of its open pores takes up creosote better than white oak, so treated red oak ties will last longer than white oak.
They can grind the rails two times before they have to replace the rail. The wooden ties will get replaced 4 times in the life of a rail.
