Murray Corliss Flour Mill Engine at Rollag

This Murray Corliss Engine is on display at Rollag, Minnesota.  It powered a flour mill at Freeport, Minnesota for fifty years, and during that time, the rope drive had to be replaced only one time.  Study this drive system; it is really neat!

You are correct. That is knot a system I have seen or heard about. :)
I'm guessing there's some sort of long splice in the rope.
