Tuesday Torque: 9 HP Economy Restoration Is Done!

Regular visitors will recognize this engine.  It's the big Economy engine that we found on Buck's Branch (of Beaver Creek), just above Martin Kentucky, back in the 1970's.  Gary has completed the drop-center cart, sanded for a couple days, painted, striped, and added decals.  It is ready for show.

Very nice.

I have the 1-1/2 little brother of that. Only with a Webster mag. Mine doesn't run as smooth though

Gary has it firing just after TDC for slow running. If you worked it, it would have to be retimed. He likes to tinker with things. We have our antennae out for a Webster. We have the original ignitor, but if the mag was in the shed forty years ago, it's too late to go back for now! I know that I did not look around that shed as I should have. I figure that the miller needed a mag, and one of his customers was an oilfield person with access to Wico EK mags. It would have been an easy trade.

Really nice work, and it looks like the bent sections of the support were each made by welding three pieces. I will have to file that one away in the memory bank.

The fellow who built the rails makes aluminum wheels and other parts for pulling tractors. He is an artist with a welder.
