Weekend Steam: American Steam Locomotives When Steam Was King

Here's a great one for quiet time on Saturday morning. Merle spotted some 8mm films from the 1950s that have been digitized, and they are fun to watch while you plan your day and drink your morning coffee. Thank You Merle!

My grandfather was a Station Master for the Pennsylvania RR post WW2, and as a boy of 8-10 I lived with my grandparents in the summers.
I had "free reign" of the station and the yard, and most of the train operating employees knew who I was, so I got to see/do things that other visitors couldn't do. On a few occasions had the opportunity to ride in the cab of a Steam locomotive to the next "whistle stop" -- 10 or so miles down the line. (grandfather would drive down and pick me up in the car).

Hard to beat that for a kid's summer adventure.
