Tuesday Torque: Visit Boonville, Indiana!

We have always enjoyed the time we spend at the Boonville show.  It is on next weekend and there should be a good turnout, since there aren't very many competing shows this year.  Here are a few of the machines we have watched over there.

Trouble; Is There Trouble?

I heard this Fairmont start up while I was a few displays away, but it quit before I could get over to it.  The owner of this engine display was looking for parts when I showed up.  A 1/4" nut had come loose from the top of the intake assembly, and parts had gone flying.  He found the cover and the check valve, but he had to rob a nut from another engine, and the spring that goes behind the check was nowhere to be seen.  He made a bold effort, but the little Putt-Putt engine couldn't be made to run without a properly functioning carburetor.  No worries, though.  He said he has plenty of spare parts at home.

Building A Broom; Courtesy Of The Sunflower Broom Shop

Claudie Parson, Broom Maker, demonstrated how to build brooms over at the Boonville, Indiana Antique Steam and Gas Engine show. Thirty years ago we saw brooms being made by an elderly couple at Boonville, but they are long-gone now. It was good to see that others are keeping these time honored skills alive. You can contact Claudie to purchase brooms by her mailing address or by e-mail.

Weekend Steam

Next weekend, October 12-14, is the fall show at Boonville, Indiana.  We prefer the fall show over the one in July, because the weather is usually perfect for strolling around all day, taking photos, and perusing the flea market.   Here are a few shots we took last year that were left over after we made our usual videos.

Weekend Steam:

The first engine we checked out at Boonville was this great little Kitten. We visited with Mr. Lindauer who brought it and were rather astounded. He lives a mile from the site of the Kitten factory at Ferdinand, has three full size Kitten engines, and then he built this free lance model. He knew many of the men who worked in the factory, and I bet he has a wealth of knowledge from those friends.

Like many of the exhibitors at steam and gas shows, Mr. Lindauer does not use a computer, but we gave him a card so his grandkids can show him his picture on the internet. Thank you for bringing your engine to Boonville, Mr. Lindauer!

Weekend Steam: Decisions, Decisions

The Boonville, Indiana fall show, and the Pinckneyville, Illinois Fall show are both happening this weekend. We have decided to go to Boonville, so we will hit the road early on Saturday, have a look around, and maybe get back in time to do a little work outdoors before dark.

Click Here to go to the Farm Collector Show Directory, and see if there is a show near you this weekend. You will need to click on pages three and four of October to see this weekend's shows.

Boonville, Indiana Engine Show Is This Weekend!

The 48th annual show of Boonville's Antique Steam and Gas Engine Club is coming up July 22-24.  There is always plenty to see at Boonville, and with the heat wave we are experiencing, I recommend arriving early to check out the flea market and tractors, and then retreating to the shade to watch the gas engines.

It's always a joy to watch the horses and mules doing field work at Boonville.

You will also see a bunch of old tractors in addition to the antique gas engines at Boonville. There is plenty of shade in the center of the show grounds, so you can get a little relief from the heat when you need it.

UPDATE FOR 2012!!! The Summer Show Is July 27-29, 2012; the Fall Show is October 12-14.

Information about the July 2012 Show can be seen at THIS LINK (CLICK).
