Tuesday Torque: Lister Diesels, Better Late Than Never!

We had company for a couple days, so I must apologize for posting late. Merle sent Lister as a suggestion, and there are several videos available on YouTube. Thank you, Merle!

On the farm we had a Yanmar 2.5k generator-welder combo that was a single cylinder Diesel thumper. It was old back in the 80's. It had a crank handle to get the flywheel turning. Once it was to speed a lever was flipped to engage the belt drive which spun over the engine. It took 2 or 3 attempts to get it cranked and running. Forget about starting it if it was below 50 degrees even with either. Once up to speed a release lever would engage the alternator. A selector switch between welder or generator was also the final setting.

tsquared: Wouldn't you love to have it now for old times' sake?! I have loved engines since I was a kid.

I wore myself out quite a few times trying to crank it. It was useful because it could be hauled out to the hayfield to weld up a broken part.
