Cover Them Over...

Cover them over with beautiful flowers, Deck them with garlands, those brothers of ours, Lying so silent by night and by day Sleeping the years of their manhood away. Give them the meed they have won in the past; Give them the honors their future forcast; Give them the chaplets they won in the strife; Give them the laurels they lost with their life.

The photo is my Father-In-Law on his last visit to St. Jo in 1986. The white/gray stone is his brother Lloyd Tru Bentrup, who was mortally wounded on the USS Colorado during the bombardment of Tinian. He was evacuated to Saipan and passed a week later. His remains were brought back to St. Jo after the war. O.T. was fighting on Guam when that occurred, and Lloyd's death haunted him the rest of his life.
