We Saw A New Critter!

We think this is a Broad Head Skink. It was up in a hollow hickory tree that is frequented by gray squirrels. We read up on it a bit, and they supposedly have a strong bite if you bother them.

Have you seen any armdillos, yet?

Range maps suggest they are getting close to you.

Cool find on the Broad Head Skink.

We have armadillo sightings all around us, but I have not seen one yet on our farm. I think we have them, but it could be skunk activity I have seen. Armadillos have been seen on I-57 almost to Effingham. There is a dead on I-57 at Mt. Vernon. A few years ago I saw a carcass on the Little Wabash bridge in Carmi. We see dead ones on I-64 in the Okawville, Nashville stretch when we go to and from St. Louis. You are liable to see them anywhere along timbered stretches of highway.
